No Brakes???

Whenever I turn on my vehicle, I always get some tunes going, something with bass, well sometimes a lot of bass to get me in the mood to drive in busy traffic. But this time I did not. I turned on my vehicle and was in a hurry to leave and get to my next destination, so forget the tunes. I pressed on the brake pedal as I put the vehicle in reverse and noticed a “whish” sound, like air being pressed on my brake.

I thought to myself, “hmmmm,” does it always sound like that but my music drowns it out?

No brake light came on, so I proceeded to go without any problems. I thought to myself I will tell my husband and see if that is normal, but I ended up forgetting until the next day.

It was my grocery shopping day and I just got off the freeway to go into our local Walmart, when I noticed the vehicle did not want to stop. Luckily, and I mean luckily I was not on the freeway and was slowly turning into the Walmart parking lot when this started happening. Very scary. So I was able to maneuver it to a parking spot and called my husband. He said what I needed, but it did not help as he was not there to fix it, as he is Mr. Fixit for our vehicles.

So I had a choice to make: Finish my grocery shopping and go home slowly (I did have some braking power but I would need to stop WAAAAYYYY ahead) or call a tow truck and have it towed home. It was a tough decision, but I decided to grocery shop and chance it going home, which I did end up making it safely, driving 20 mph with the hazard or emergency lights on. The longest drive of my life!

It did get fixed and now it stops very well, but the brake is a little tough as it is a different power brake booster (not the actual brakes on your vehicle) then what I had before. But so far so good.

I think that is one of my worst fears while driving: not being able to stop and slamming into someone accidently. Honestly, I think God was looking out for me and kept me safe as I did not have to experience this on the freeway, and just happened to turn into a parking lot going slow when the brakes failed.

What is a moment that was scary to you and God helped you at the right time?
