Do You Have To Be A Hippie For Hipcamp?

Our first Hipcamp experience!

Do you have to be a hippie for Hipcamp? I am only joking here, and you do not have to be a hippie. But if you want to, then it is perfectly fine. But, what is Hipcamp and how could it benefit you?

In a nutshell, it is:

  • FREE to join!

  • Find unique places to camp, stay in a hotel, glamp, a treehouse or visit a cabin.

  • Low cost accommodations. Woo hoo!

  • Located throughout the U.S.

  • Easy, online booking and very accommodating hosts.

A simple, country road near our Hipcamp host.

Hipcamp is a place not only to camp, but to stay for a night or more at unique destinations, such as on a ranch, a homestead, the desert or even the forest. You do not have to purchase anything but only for your night stay. And it is VERY reasonable!

My husband and I needed to stay near Salt Lake City, and we prefer to boondock (dry camp), but when you are near a big city, boondocking areas are very hard to find. Since we have a large setup, or a big rig, it can be a challenge to find a campground large enough for us to camp. So enter Hipcamp.

What is Hipcamp?

A new friend!

It is an alternative to campgrounds, a safe place to stay, maybe even get to know your hosts, can stay more than one night (depending on the hosts), and like I said, reasonably priced, again, depending on the hosts or location. It is really simple to set up an account:

Just create an account, describe yourself in the bio, set up your social media channels (optional), upload a profile pic (smile pretty!) and you are on your way! It is that easy! No annual fee and even there is a bonus: you can earn Hipcash! You can earn $10 credit toward a future stay for each friend you refer. Who does not like earning cash and not really working for it?

Another bonus: you can become a Hipcamp photographer, by staying at Hipcamp sites, taking photos of the area you are staying at and get paid! You can use the money you earn for future Hipcamp stays and stay practically free! Just apply to Hipcamp like you would a job and wait for them to approve your application and then you are on your way!

An incredible Wyoming sunset!

We have stayed at a few Hipcamp hosts and I can honestly say we never had a bad or unsafe time. As a matter of fact, we ended up staying at 2 relatives houses (not to us, but the hosts), completely on the opposite sides of the state we were visiting! Sometimes hosts will greet you and sometimes not. They may be busy and do not have the time to greet.

The first one we stayed at was a wonderful experience. The hosts, especially the wife, was so friendly. She made sure our needs were met and let us know if we had any questions to please ask. It was wonderful to receive such good service and we did stay there for a week and had a blast exploring the area around the ranch we were at. Wonderful memories!

An incredible Arizona sunset in this vacant land!

Once you create your account, you can start looking for a place to visit. Just put the dates you want to visit and how many are in your party. Then you can select if you want to camp in a RV, a tent, or lodging. Easy peasy! You will have many hosts to choose from, once you select one, please read the information about the host carefully before booking. They will have rules, the fee and what to expect.

We stayed on a ranch for another Hipcamp visit.

Then you will be on your way, and you do not have to be a hippie to enjoy Hipcamp, unless you want to be! Even though we are not hippies, we stayed on a horse ranch near Salt Lake City, very peaceful and safe away from the big city!

Let us know what your experience was at Hipcamp!
