Who Me? Take Photos?

I remember there was a time when you had to buy film, put it in your camera, take the photos, take the film out and deliver it to a store to be developed and wait till they were done. Tick tock, tick tock. That was a time I grew up in.  You didn't know how they would turn out until you got the photos in a nice envelope from the store.  I would get my photos and say, "oh, that one is fine...what happened to that one?  Why wasn't I smiling?"

Today, you can take literally take zillions of photos, do the same one over and over until you get it right.  I can be picky about how I take photos and will do it more then once of the same thing until I get it right.  That is the beauty of digital photography today!

Just curious, anyone here had a Polaroid?  Remember the flash cubes on those cameras?  Blinded my eyes! I thought it was so cool when a photo would come out of the camera, almost like taking a photo today. Except, there was a weird smell on those Polaroid photos (yes, I used to like the smell).

One thing I will encourage you do not do is to compare your photos with other photos you see on the Internet. If you are a beginner or just want to up your game in photography, here are some tips to get you started:

  1. Location, location, location.  Not only is real estate important when it comes to selling homes, but so are photo shoots.  Look around you and see what area you can photograph, just for fun.  Take a walk or a drive and see what your town or city has to offer.

  2.  Experience:  Some of the beautiful photos you see on the Internet are from experienced photographers.  These photographers may have went to school and specialized in photography.  They may have practiced many years.  This is what you should do.  Practice, practice, practice.  Did I say practice?  You will not get better if you don't practice.

  3. Software editing programs:  This can be a biggie.  Adobe Photoshop is the #1 photographer's choice for editing their photos.  Even though I have Photoshop, I use Adobe Lightroom as it is user-friendly and something I chose to use.  I heard that Adobe Photo Elements is very good as well. There are also many editing apps for free on the Internet.

  4. Realistic photos verses unrealistic photos.  There is a photo I have seen on Facebook where the moon looks like it is falling down a waterfall.  It is a beautiful photo, but definitely not realistic.  Do you like realistic photos or unrealistic photos?  I am not knocking down any one's photos, just making a suggestion.

  5.  Cameras.  It doesn't matter what type of camera you have, or even just a smart phone.  I used to take photos with disposable cameras (I wouldn't recommend it but it is cheap).  When you take photos, think of a story you want to convey to others.  It is your story to share with the world.  Whether you have a simple camera, a digital camera or whatever you have, get to know your tool and practice. Now go and do it!

To sum up what I said, yes, you can take photos.  It doesn't matter what type of camera you have, or if you have the latest photo editing software programs, or experience. Let's fill up social media with positive photos that will bring a smile to others!
