What Is 1 Decision You Can Make Today?
Decisions. We make many of them each day, and sometimes we need to focus on one important decision. Decisions such as picking out what to wear for the day, a fabulous place to eat as you saved up money for that oh-so highly rated place to eat, whether to go on a vacation to resort you only dreamed of going to or do a staycation and make it the best you can, these and more decisions may weigh heavily on your mind. Going fulltime rving was a tough decision to make, with careful planning and some advice we received.
Making the decision to sell everything and go fulltime rving was not made lightly. We read (well, I read information), watched videos (thank you YouTube), went to the annual Quartzsite, Arizona RV rally held in January each year and joined multiple FB groups to gather information.
It has been a difficult journey as making this 1 decision has had an impact on our lives and those around us. Selling everything we worked hard for was a challenge as I thought about the memories we made with the stuff. But it is stuff, right? Saying goodbye to my children was terrible as I did not realize how sad I would get. Was I being a good mom leaving them, even though they are young adults, making their ways into the world?
But was this right decision to make?
Some of your decisions were the right ones, and you pat yourself on the back, thinking you did a good job. But sometimes these decisions are not what you expected. Maybe you thought a decision you made would be for the good, to be helpful and beneficial for either yourself or your family or others. But then it backfired and you are left picking up the pieces, wondering why you made the decision in the first place. Then regrets start filling your mind, bringing fear to the center, fear of making another wrong decision. Falling backward instead of standing upright on your feet.
What is another bad decision could I make, you say to yourself, over and over?
I ponder to myself, did Jesus have a hard time making his decisions? Or was it easy for him? Hmmm….
I like to picture Jesus praying, asking God to bring his future disciples to him. But not only that, people he needed to seek and heal, to teach, and even to listen to others sharing their struggles. I think Jesus may have smiled at that, knowing that he was there at the right moment, the right time, to offer comfort, guidance a listening ear to his audience.
When it comes to making a decision, careful thought may go into it or even if you are the spontaneous type, you may just go for it! You may write a list of pros and cons and see if the pros outweigh the cons. My husband tends to change his mind often, which honestly, drives me a little crazy. It is hard for him to make up his mind as there is so much out there to think of. But there will come a time when you will have to make a decision and what decision is the right one?
When it comes to making a decision, these are some tools I would like to suggest:
Get paper and pen, or if you are a techie, use your favorite device.
Write down what the decision is in one sentence, if possible.
Then, make a pros and cons column and start listing the pros and cons of the decision.
Pray about it.
Have a discussion with God, asking Him for advice, point you in the right direction.
Do not be hasty, but think about, at least 24 hours.
And ultimately, the decision you make is:
The right one. It is the one YOU make.
Even if it is was not the result you wanted, it was the RIGHT decision for you.
Do no be afraid to make that decision. It is important. It is for you. Even if it flops, learn from it and move forward and the next time you make another decision, it might prove to be the right one!
Jesus made a decision to choose Judas to be part of his disciple team. He knew right from the start he was going to betray him, but nonetheless, Jesus chose Judas. It was the right decision. Sometimes I wish we would have the foreknowledge of what our outcomes of decisions we would make before they were made!
Was going fulltime rving the right decision we made? It was for us. We do have our good and bad days, and I question myself if we made the right decision on those bad days. Those are the days I need to remember why we made this choice, this decision, a life-changing decision, that we can only live out. We wanted to travel the country during my husband’s retirement while we have the ability and good health to do it. And of course to come back and visit our kids!
What about you? What is 1 decision you can make today?
