Where Can You Explore?

Exploring the desert trails in Arizona!

Exploring is something that drives me outside, the great outdoors, to find something that brings me joy and happiness. Exploring takes some work, preparing, thinking about a place to explore that would dazzle you and your friends if you share on social media. But it seems like, and I am guilty of this, when the weather changes, such as getting hot, it is time to stay inside and figure out something to do.

I live in a state where the temps can rise over 100 degrees all summer long. It can be unbearable, especially when it gets humid and the monsoons come. Sometimes we go outside and swim, if we have a swimming pool. But staying inside an air conditioned house, watching Netflix can be a favorite for others.

But where can you explore when the weather is not your cup of tea?

Exploring the water at Lake Havasu, Arizona!

When my kids were little and the summer heat was bearing down on us, I would take them early in the morning to an outdoor park, especially if they had shade, like a Ramada covering the play area. We would explore around the park, pretending we were an important explorer, waiting for a discovery to be made. Or we would explore museums. Do you know how friendly the museum volunteers or employees are and how they would love to take you around the museum to discover something unknown, but yet fascinating?

Well, my kids are grown up now, but I have not lost the idea of exploring. I like to take drives on dirt trails to see how miners lived so long ago. I like to take walks, and imagine what kind of exploring the people that once traversed the land I am on did. Did you know some trails were made by people in a covered wagon as they were exploring new territories to live and thrive?

You only need a vivid imagination to explore in your neck of the woods. Even if it is snowing or raining, instead of watching tv, try to explore something around your house or even in your neighborhood. Jump in a puddle of water like a little kid and laugh like no one is watching! Find events in your neighborhood or city that requires some interaction, something active that will draw you out of the house. Blow bubbles, you are never too old to do that! Play games in your back yard, such as, Mother May I? Or Red Light, Green Light. I had a blast playing those when I was a child and even as an adult with my own children! This should be the year of fun!

You never know what discovery you can make when you explore!
