How To Celebrate The Holidays In Your RV

I remember as a child taking a drive to look at Christmas lights, delight lighting up my face as I saw the colorful twinkles, reds and greens and whites, but sometimes different than the usual, like blue, pink, purple. The colors put warmth in my heart, especially as I would decorate my own house someday with treasures saved up over the years.

Countless Jesse tree themes, and other themes passed through the years, with home made ornaments, decorations from Michael’s Craft Store, the smell of cinnamon wafting in the air, even a scent of pine tickling the nose, a trip to the snow or play right in your front yard with all that white stuff on your lawn. Ah, yes, celebrating the holidays can be a magical time, no matter your age.

But wait! What about when you live in a super duper small space, crammed next to other RVers? How can you decorate and still have a joyous time?

Yes, you can! But you will have to change your mindset and think small, and cozy and, well, cute. It might mean to remove some of your knick knacks to make room for your holiday decorations (I do). It might mean downsizing (egads!) your holiday boxes into something that will be nice for your RV.

I got rid of a lot of my holiday decorations before we went fulltime rving. I was saddened I could not bring them, but it is just “stuff,” and honestly, I did not have that much decorations. So I picked the favorites I had and store it somewhere until the holidays approach.

Some people have pine trees that they decorate for Christmas, some people put lights on their awnings (I still love those twinkles), and some people manage to decorate the interior of their rigs tastefully. Here are some ideas to get your creative juices going:

  • Pick a color theme, if that is what you desire, and find things that will go with that theme. Think small and cute!

  • If you have the room in your rig, put a tree in it and decorate with your color theme. Or if you just like a bunch of colors, then go for that. If your rig is too small, why not put it in front of the rig, or near your front door? Bring a little cheer to others as they walk past your rig (if in a RV park) and bring the wow factor to all.

  • Any tables in your rig? Why not put holiday decorations on them. Nothing too much, but cute and small! This is what I do: I pack up my everyday decorations and put the holiday decorations on our little tables. Talk about cute!

  • Do you like to bake? I do!!! Make sure you have a ceramic pizza pan, like a 12x12 to put in your oven, on your rack. It will help with the cooking as gas ovens in a RV do not heat up like one in a house. You will place your baking dish or cookie sheet on the ceramic pizza pan. What is your favorite sweet to bake? I adore peppermint brownies, anything with peanut butter and chocolate, lots of sweets as I have a sweet tooth. Try a new recipe and check out Pinterest as that place has lots and lots of recipes, even if you are on a special diet!!!

  • Go somewhere festive! There are plenty of things to do whether your are in a big city or a small town. Do a search on the internet and find something local, or go and visit a town nearby for holiday festivities. Get involved by volunteering to help a local need or just participate by being at the festivity. Celebrating the holidays can be a lot of fun and a great way to boost your spirits!

  • Buy gifts for others. Or, if you are crafty, make crafty items for family and friends. My kids used to make crafts when they were little and we had so much fun, well, messy fun! Get mason jars and put ingredients together to make something yummy, like cookies and share with your new neighbors!

  • Go on a movie binge and watch your favorite holiday shows! There is so much on tv: comedy, drama, comrom, romantic and more for your holiday must-sees. Personally I watch the Hallmark channel as they have plenty of holiday movies.

I hope I have given you plenty to think about! You do not have to do all of them, but pick and choose. I think we could all use a bit of holiday cheer, so why don’t you take photos of your holiday decorations and baking accomplishments and share on social media. I would love to hear from you about what you are doing this holiday season!!

Happy Holidays!!!
